Pritchard and Edmunds Family History
Letter to Richard Edmunds at Oxhill circa 1833 |
This letter was written by Henry Edmunds of Banbury to his elder brother Richard who was at boarding school in Oxhill, a small village in south Warwickshire. Henry would have been about ten at the time and his elder sister Mary, referred to in the letter, about thirteen. The thumbnail entitled Oxhill letter 1 shows the address written simply as Richard Edmunds, Oxhill, and the letter seal.
My information that Richard was at school in Oxhill comes from a book entitled "A Memorial to Richard Edmunds of Banbury", edited by Thomas Champness who was a contemporary of Richard Edmunds. The book is available in the local studies department of Oxford Central Library.
It is thought that this was the school in Payn's House, Back Lane. Very little is known about this school but some information is on the Oxhill Village site
